This morning I completed day 4 of the Miracle Morning 30 day challenge. (Although this is something that I hope extends far beyond just the 30 days!) If you haven’t read the book? I highly recommend Hal Elrod’s Miracle Morning! It’s a quick read, and so inspiring!

But today? I want to talk a little bit about silence. Especially from the Christian perspective. (Because I have to admit, I don’t feel like it’s tailored to a Christian all that well – with a heavy influence on meditation.)

I am one of those people who doesn’t do silence well. My brain is always running, and my mouth is typically moving along with it. At work? I often find a room and sit alone so that I can talk to myself while I work. So I have to admit that the whole “silence” portion of this experiment scared me. So I prayed about it, and took a good look at scripture.

Miracle Morning Silence

Psalm 46:10 says “Be still, and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth.”

This verse has become somewhat of my personal mantra. Yes, I realize that it is to wait on God. But I really feel like this applies to the Miracle Morning Silence as well! Dick Eastman’s, The Hour that Changes the World dedicates an entire chapter to “waiting” and I took that to heart when it came to this practice.

To be still and sit at the foot of the Cross is one of the best ways to start your morning! (And also the hardest!) I find that while I’m sitting in silence? My brain starts to wander! So I have a few quick tips!

º Get Comfortable! (But not to comfortable!) I love to sit in my comfy recliner for this exercise! (Just make sure you don’t fall asleep!)

º Have soft music playing! (My current favorite is New Life Worships, SOAK album!) This will give your mind something to focus on as you start to sit in silence.

º Keep a pen and paper nearby! I keep my journal next to me in case something comes along that I absolutely cannot let go of! Then I can get it out of my mind and down on paper before I pick up.

 

I have found that what I thought would be the most difficult part of the miracle morning? Is the part that I look forward to the most. I start with a quick prayer, asking God to bless my morning routine and speak to me as I am going through these steps. I thank Him for the morning, and the calm before my day kicks into gear!

During my silence? I find that I am more relaxed and ready to jump into the next steps of my morning routine.
